Nrutya Bharati Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) stands as Jersey City's first dedicated classical Kathak institution, extending the distinguished legacy of Nrutya Bharati, Indore—an institution established in 1968 with a commitment to preserving and advancing North Indian classical dance.
We believe that tradition is not an anchor, but a compass. At NBPAC, students encounter the full rigor of Kathak—the geometric precision of footwork, the mathematical complexity of rhythm, the meditative discipline of practice—yet within a framework that honors individual expression and contemporary relevance.
Our pedagogy is rooted in the principle of "Structured Freedom." We provide the trellis (technique, syllabus, grammar) while allowing each student to grow in their own artistic direction. This approach makes Kathak accessible to students of any age or cultural background while maintaining the uncompromising standards of the gharana tradition.
Located in Exchange Place, Jersey City, NBPAC is strategically positioned to serve dancers throughout the tri-state area. Our proximity to Manhattan and accessible transportation makes authentic classical training available to students from across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
